Renowned Film Maker, Spike Lee, Calls On Black Males To Take The Lead Role...In The Classroom

If you are a fiiinnneee young gentleman of color currently attending a historically black college or university, Spike Lee is coming to see you. This legendary filmmaker wants YOU to play the lead role in his agenda to increase the number of black male teachers.

Too many of our people play the reject roles as street dwellers and jail packers. Just take a look at Elijah Anderson's book Code of the Street. We as a people have so much potential -- so much to contribute to society. That said, help decrease the odds of one of our rising lil brothers or sisters ending up in prison or on the street.  That's a pay check without a doubt greater than any Hollywood gig could offer.

A Black Man Is One Of The Leaders In Computer Science?! Now That's What I'm Talkin' About!

One of our brothers, Dr. Juan Gilbert is using his mad computer science skills to do things like teach youth algebra with hip-hop. Mmmhmmm I wish that I could have learned algebra like that, too. Creating a love for math in kids isn't all he's doing. His Human Centered Computing Lab designed Prime III -- "the world's single most accessible electronic voting system allowing more people to privately and independently vote versus any other system."

To the black youth dodging math and science because you think it's hard, Dr. Gilbert is one reason to dodge no more! Even if you're like me and have a passion for English, Dr. Gilbert is still a great role model. Not only does he make it his business to be the epitome of awesomeness in his field, he ensures that his work positively impacts the lives of others. No matter what color you are, making a difference is something all youth should strive to achieve.

Yes, We're Black And Making It! Welcome To The Place Where College Students Can Chill And Relate

To all my college brothers and sisters, WELCOME! There's no place quite like Black And Making It, Too for sippin' the latest juice on the juiciest topics such as Spike Lee coming to visit you at your HBCU, discussin' gloriously unforgettable dramas of college life, figuring out where the heck to find an internship, or tapping into our cultural resources for encouragement to fight that good scholastic fight. Even if you're not black but still in college, fun and advice have no color, so feel free to join in the lively discussion.

As an 20-year-old African-American female in college, I know too well the the extra drama we have to deal with in school. I created this blog to be a place where we can all relate on matters like culture clash, learn study tips from fellow students, and talk about the good times along the way.

All of that lovely stuff said, the surveys have been conducted, and we'll be talking about what YOU want to talk about. If you have any new ideas, just leave a comment on any post, and let me know!
